Drive to Hua Hin – Day 4 and 5

Date : 17th September 2012/18th September 2012

Dolphin Bay – Hat Yai – Kuala Lumpur

Check out in the morning without taking the breakfast as it served late at 7.30am,  we decided to have breakfast at the highway rest area. It is long 8 hours drive to Hat Yai.

We stop about every 2 hours to refresh and replenish titbits .. one of our coffee break at a nice setup rest area..Khao Pho rest stop

Another stop…

I remember I stopped at this rest area way back in 2006 in my first trip to Thailand.. still fresh in my memory.. everything here is BIG.

We are near SuratThani…time to have our routine break and coconut jelly…

Reach Hat Yai about 7pm.  Nothing special about Hat Yai… after traveling to other place… Hat Yai had lost its charms to me… goods and food are expensive compare to other places…

Next day.. check out at 10.30am.. cross Malaysia custom at 1pm Malaysia time.. lunch at Changlung and back home at 6pm.

Overall a nice trip to Hua Hin… refresh my memory for some of the places like Coconut Jelly and Elephant Temple… certainly good for my next trip…

Total distance travel is about 2400KM and petrol about RM670.00. Hotel usually cost less then RM150 per night per room during peak season for 3-4 star hotel.

Dec 19, 2011

arrive Trang today. went to the rest point (view point) that you went :)

Trang is a very nice small and peaceful town! i love it. stay at Thumarine (sister hotel to the one you stay i.e. thamarin thala) only 750baht very nice room value for money.

Will send you more once i have found more convenience in working on it.

24th Dec 2011

Am doing this posting in my Phuket budget hotel (http://phuket-blueoceanresort.com/rooms/studio/) room now. I ony searched for hotel when i arrives Patong beach yesterday. Drove around looked at some hotels and liked this one (blue ocean studio). asked the price the want charge me RM150, then i went to a few agency website and finally manage to online book through booking.com with only RM75!! IT IS EXACTLY THE SAME ROOM. So much defferent in rate. i always compare online booking and hotel walk-in during my this trip and i have save atleast 40% in rates. sometimes hotel walk-in direct offer much better rate than online booking. do compare. we like this way i.e. able to drive around look at the hotel options (go in look at the room also) then only make final decision with best rate. i tried once pre-booking before trip through net by turn out room not as nice as in website :(, so never do this again liao.

My drive from JB – Phuket is very relaxing and exciting. THANKS KENT FOR HIS BLOG, IT REALLY MAKE THE DRIVING SOUNDS SO SIMPLE (AND IT REALLY IS!).

This is my 1st time dirving to Thailand. AND I DO NOT HAVE A GPS! I STILL DO IT THE TRADITIONAL WAY, AND IT CAN BE FUN ALSO I.E. YOU WILL GET TO THE TOWN’S ROADS BETTER IN YOUR MEMORY. Just obtain those free maps when you reach every town. However i did buy 1 Southern RM12 and it is very useful when i drive between towns.

RIVER KWAI BRIDGE WEEK

Kanchanaburi Province, NOVEMBER 24 – DECEMBER 5, 2010

Each year in late November to early December, the world famous River Kwae Bridge built by Allied prisoners-of-war during World War II , becomes the focal point of celebrations.

Event highlights include historical and archaeological exhibits, a carnival, folk and cultural performances, rides on World War II vintage trains, and a spectacular light and sound presentation re-enacting the bridge’s World War II legacy.

Kanchanaburi is the place that I have yet to got a chance to visit, I might plan to drive to Kanchanaburi next year because it is just another 3 hours drive from Hua Hin.

LOI KRATHONG – FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS at Bangkok

In Bangkok:
November 19 – 21, 2010
Nationwide:
November 17 – 21, 2010

As the full moon of the twelfth lunar month (usually in mid-November) lights up the night sky, throughout the Thai kingdom, hundreds of thousands of ornately-decorated krathong or traditional banana leaf floats are set adrift in rivers and waterways in a spell-binding ritual called “Loi Krathong” — the ‘festival of lights”. This is one of the Kingdom’s oldest and best-preserved traditions. The Loi Krathong tradition we know of today has evolved from the royal rituals of the early Rattanakosin period in which several types of lanterns were set afloat in the Chao Phraya River and its waterways.

If you are driving to Bangkok, this will be a good chance to witness the festival.

Flood in Hatyai

I actually planning for a year end trip driving to Hatyai and Songkla where I wish to check out a few makan place like Water View restaurant at Danok and Ko Yo at Songkla.

It will be a 3 days 2 night trip over the weekend in the school holiday mainly exploring Hatyai, Songkla and Pattalung area.

But I may change my plan due to the recent flood in Thailand. Unless the flood subside at least 4 weeks before my trip so that the area is clear from health and diseases problem.

According to the Bangkok Post news today, the flood condition start improving, let see how it goes.

Apparently this is not the first time where Hatyai is flooded, it has been quite norm during the year end raining season.
